Installing floorcoverings in one room or an entire home is an investment. Having your floorcovering installed professionally is a wise decision. Not only will it be guaranteed to be installed according to manufacturer’s specifications, but will ensure the life of your purchase.
Pre-installation Tips:
- Shoe moldings (quarter round) should be removed in areas for stretch-in carpet only.
- Base moldings must be removed and reinstalled for hard surface installations. For new construction in stretch-in carpet areas, base moldings should be ½ inch off the floor.
- Wires (T.V., phone, etc.) should not be run under the floorcovering under any circumstances.
- The area to be covered must be entirely clear of appliances, furniture and valuables.
- Computers and other electronic components should be disconnected and removed.
- In the event that a gas appliance must be removed, make arrangements in advance to have a certified technician reconnect it.
- Room temperature on the day of installation should be at least 70 degrees.
- Doors may need to be trimmed to accommodate the height of the new floorcovering.
- For safety’s sake, please make arrangements to have small children and pets kept away from the work area during the installation.
The above mentioned are services that can be provided by our installers (additional costs may apply).
Being the proud owner of a new floorcovering you will need to apply a maintenance regimen to sustain the value of your floor.
Care and Maintenance
- Frequent vacuuming keeps your carpet looking fresh and new. (One time per week for each member of the household – pets included.)
- Manufacturers recommend all carpets be professionally cleaned every 12 to 18 months. (Stain warranties are dependent upon this.)
- Never rub out a carpet stain – always blot with an absorbent white cloth or paper towel.
- Never use harsh chemicals or solvents to remove a carpet stain. Always seek a professional.
- Never use anything abrasive on hard surface flooring.
- To remove a tacky substance from a hard surface floor always use a non-metallic tool such as a plastic spatula or a credit card.
- Never over saturate wood flooring with water. Damp mopping is acceptable.
- Waxes and polishes are not recommended for new floors and may produce a dulling build up or cause slippery conditions.
- The use of synthetic backed mats will cause discoloration of linoleum flooring.
- The use of walk-off mats is recommended inside and outside entrance points.
These are just some of the more common concerns that can arise; however, each situation varies from house to house. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to call us anytime and we will be happy to advise you any way we can.
